For the first time in Anno’s 25-year history, a core Anno game is launching on consoles, marking this not only an exciting step for us as a team, but for the Anno brand as a whole!

Anno 1800 Console Edition includes the full Anno 1800 base game experience with all major Free Game Updates released so far, with multiple improvements to make the game just as enjoyable on consoles as it is on PC. We will go into more detail on that in the next paragraph and future articles in the week until release.

Talking about the release: Anno 1800 Console Edition will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 16th this year!

Bringing Anno 1800 to consoles

For us as a team, this project was an exciting challenge, after years of PC-focused development for Anno. From the obvious use of a gamepad instead of mouse and keyboard to the larger distance between you as a player and your screen: many things had to be considered and redesigned.

At the same time, we were very excited to not only gather new experiences, professionally, but to also be able to bring our “baby” to new platforms and therefore a new audience.

You probably already noticed in the trailer above that we redesigned the full UI: The construction menu is now a radial menu – much easier to navigate with a gamepad – while other elements have moved to other parts of the screen. There are multiple further changes, like an enlarged region map to quickly jump between islands, the option to automatically build roads around building blocks and the Annopedia with lots of useful information on game mechanics and features, just to name a few.

Of course, you will also profit from various features that we developed for the PC version over the last years like the statistics screen to keep an overview of your production, population and finances, a day-and-night cycle to see your cities in a completely different light and co-op mode to tackle the challenges of the 19th century with friends and family. Like on PC, up to 16 players can join up for some fun multiplayer time.

The only issue that bothered me was having to buy the base game with only cosmetic expansions at launch and then re-buy all the expansions they will release. I’ve been a big fan of the franchise since year 1503 and got all versions of the game and expansions. But now I will have to invest everything again for the console version, as there is no more economical way to migrate my game to the console with all the achievements and expansions. This will generate a high cost, but I really hope we don’t have FPS drops and manage to run with a large volume of population, islands, boats and airships, in 4k. Preferably, using keyboard and mouse, sitting on the couch at home.

Wird dann Crossplay zwischen Xbox und Pc möglich sein?

    •   Ubi-Thorlof

Nein, Crossplay wird für die Console Edition nicht unterstützt.

    Hello Anno teams,

I played anno 1800 on my pc and my steamdeck when i travel. Did you plan to upgrade it or adapt it on the type of console because it’s hard to read somme text. I’m became old :).

Thanks for this fantastic game indeed.

Just wondering – would it be easy to add gamepad controls to PC version after release?
What came to my mind is that then I would be able to stream sometimes to my TV and play from the couch on big screen 🙂

They can still change their mind and do an Asia DLC. It would be a huge hit with Annoholics.

    •   Ubi-Thorlof

It might be, but as communicated at the end of last year, we’re not planning any more content DLC for Anno 1800, with the exception of the mentioned Cosmetic DLCs.

    Hi Anno Devs,

I was waiting for this such a long time THANK YOU ! Love the franchise since the beginning.
I own the PC version but will definitely switch to my PS5 setup since I’m stepping away from PC for a while now.
    Question:
    * 30 FPS -> Please make 40 or 60 FPS also an option
    * Anno 1800 Console edition is “with all major Game Updates” so Season 1 till 4 included ?
    * Can I play on my PS5 with PC friends together ?
    * Tip: I have friends that use mouse and keyboard on console is it possible to switch of the Console UI ?

@The Console community players: For you who dont know the game…. YOU WILL LOVE IT

PS.: People please stop complaining about “Why on Console” or “put effort in Season 5”
Appreciate the work they have done for the Console Community as well.

Anno for Console look like it’s dumb down big time.. easy street placement, etc etc—- Time could have gone to a season 5 like everyone was waiting for……….

    •   Ubi-Thorlof

The gameplay experience on console is nearly identical to PC, when it comes to features and content. But of course certain controls and UI elements had to be adjusted so they work smoothly on console with a gamepad. The street placement is one of those, yes. That’s not really dumbing down, however, but simply an adjustment – some might call it a quality-of-life feature.

The decision to work on a console version (starting in 2021) has not impacted our overall plans for postlaunch content for the PC version. The decision not to do a Season 5 but finish main development on Anno 1800 after Season 4 has been taken for several reasons. That said, we understand some of you would love to see a further expansion of the world of Anno 1800.

      • t thekingkupo

Yes please! You can up the price for DLC and Season 5! people will pay for this beautiful game! But as were nearing the end I hope you guys go out with a bang if ever you do season 5!

The news is certainly interesting, but strange – to play strategy on consoles… It would be better to devote this time to the fifth season, which ANNO 1800 fans were waiting for, for example, Asia. Which I was waiting for. ((( But you know better…

The decision to work on a console version (starting in 2021) has not impacted our overall plans for postlaunch content for the PC version.

While we understand some of you would love to see a further expansion of the world of Anno 1800, but for several reasons, we decided to end main development for the game this year. As we also communicated at the end of last year, we’re slowly starting work on a new project.

        Hi Ubi-Thorlof and Ubisoft.

As a dedicated fan of Anno 1800, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Season 5 – (Asia). This expansion would not only make the game feel more complete, but it would also provide a satisfying conclusion to such a beautifully crafted game. I understand that there may be challenges and obstacles in the development and release of a new season, but I urge you to reconsider and continue the last season of Anno 1800 in 2023. The passion and enthusiasm of the Anno 1800 community are a testament to the game’s lasting impact and potential for continued success. We hope you will consider your loyal gamers’ request to bring the game to its full potential and have the last season it deserves consideration.
